Conference Program

We have said this conference is unique, and so is our program!

The program is structured broadly across the themes of Urban Planning and Design, Education, Health and current cross sectoral issues like climate change and risk management, as well as the impact of technology on play.

Each session is structured around a provocation. These provocations are designed to encourage critical discussion and reflection about the intersection of play in various environments. Every stream will have a play provocateur, challenging our thinking and sharing their wisdom, complemented by a range of skilled and experienced panellists, who will also serve as “provocateurs,” sharing their work and inspiring us with their story of how they address the provocation.

Conference Participants can switch between streams and will have a choice of 4 provocations to attend per session. Each session will record reflections and insights from the provocateurs and participants, and this will be included in a final conference session which will engage all participants in an intensive workshopping of the ideas discussed and contribution to setting an agenda for future play advocacy and collaborations in the Asia Pacific.

Come prepared to playfully engage, be challenged, build your professional networks and be a part of this historic first Play collaboration in Asia Pacific!

Challenge yourself at the Play Cafe

So often you leave a conference with little time to reflect or hear divergent views and then you are back at work and the conference is a distant memory. This will not happen at the IPA Asia Pacific Play Conference! Our Play Cafés are designed to ensure you leave with clarity and purpose!

The Play Cafés gives an opportunity to reflect and consolidate our thinking and learnings from the past two days. They are facilitated sessions providing you with an opportunity to listen to other delegate’s perspectives on what they have heard, ask questions of the play provocateurs and play alchemists, and share their perspectives and learnings.

Modelled on the Global café style, the sessions will create the foundations to build strong responsive networks at local, regional, national and global level, driving the protection, preservation and promotion of play in the Asia Pacific.

The Conference will produce a report that will be publicly available, all conference participants names and their organisations will be acknowledged in the appendix as a record of this history making event that will lay the foundations for work and advocacy for play over the next 10 years.

Meet our Play Provocateurs

A Play Provocateur is someone who encourages creativity, exploration, and critical thinking about the concept of play and its role in society. These individuals challenge conventional ideas and norms related to play to provoke thought and inspire new perspectives.

The essence of a play provocateur lies in their ability to make people reconsider the boundaries of play, encouraging them to embrace spontaneity, curiosity, and imagination and to question. By doing so, they aim to foster a culture that values play as a vital component of personal and collective growth, well-being, and creativity.
